The Glenrothes is an award winning Speyside Single Malt and a pioneer in the whisky industry. All our Single Malt is Vintage Whisky. And when we say Vintage, we don't just mean aged; we mean whisky distilled in a particular year that has reached its peak of maturity, character and flavour.

OUR PRODUCT: RESERVES, SINGLE VINTAGES AND SPECIAL RELEASES

What makes The Glenrothes different is also what makes it exceptional. At the Glenrothes, we only bottle our Single Malt Whisky at the moment it reaches its peak of maturity and taste. Thus, all of our whisky is, by its very nature, Vintage.

You see, age statements are no guarantee of quality or taste. What happens to the whisky in the cask is far more important than the number of years it spends inside it. Much like a fine wine, whisky matures at its own pace. Which is why each individual cask of ours is carefully checked, nosed and tasted many times over many years, until perfect.

Every expression we create must have its own unique personality, underpinned by our distillery's characteristic flavour profile - ripe fruits, citrus, vanilla and an exquisite spicy finish all encased in the creamiest of textures and with a complex yet well-poised balance. Only when it meets our thorough requirements can it be bottled, either within one of our exquisite Reserves, as a unique and finite Single Vintage, or as a much sought after Special Release.

HOW WE MAKE THE GLENROTHES

It's all about flavour. Take some plump, ripe Scottish barley - steep it in fresh water, then lay it out, turn it, let it germinate before drying it in a kiln: you then have your 'malted' barley; next mill it before mixing it with hot water, then mash it to extract the soluble starches; allow the liquid to cool for fermentation, add yeast, control the magic of the yeast effect by letting it bubble and froth and two days later you have a 'wash' of 8% alcohol, a bit like beer.

Now the distillation, a carefully controlled process in which the liquid is heated twice in a pair of tall-necked traditional copper pot stills, the vapours rise and are condensed, the liquid spirit is formed and the Stillman takes his 'middle-cut' from the second distillation. This, the heart, is little more than 17-19% of the total run. Finally the 'new make' has its strength reduced and is filled into oak casks to rest and mature in the warehouse.

OUR BOTTLE

Our understated rounded bottle is based on the distillery's classic sample bottle. It carries a minimalist label, which is essentially a set of tasting notes from us to you. For a Single Vintage, you'll also find the year of distillation and bottling. And the Malt Master's signature is on every selection to further endorse the sign of excellence. We then frame it in order to exhibit the whisky in all its glory.

The bottle, label and packaging all combine to highlight the quality and style of this impeccable Vintage Single Malt.
